Download for offline use

Silo is in active development before 1.0. These guides are updated frequently.

The mobile app can save movies and episodes to watch offline. Your account needs download permission, and the device needs enough free space. Start downloads while you can still reach your server. On a computer, you can save the original file from the web app.

Save a movie or episode

  1. Open the title on the device you’ll take with you.
  2. Tap Download.
    • On iPhone and iPad, this uses your default download settings. To pick options first, open More and choose Download Options….
    • On Android phones and tablets, choose a quality under Download Quality if the app asks.
  3. Open Downloads and wait until the title is ready. If you picked a smaller quality, the server prepares a copy before the transfer starts.
  4. Play the title from Downloads for a moment before you leave home.

Watch and manage downloads

When you’re offline, open Downloads and play from there. On iPhone and iPad, if you open a downloaded title while online, you can choose Play Downloaded to use the copy on your device.

On iPhone and iPad, tap the progress ring of a download in progress to pause or resume it, or touch and hold it for Cancel Download. A failed download appears under Needs Attention with buttons to retry or remove it. Android phones and tablets have no pause or retry: remove the download and start it again.

To delete one download, touch and hold it and choose Delete Download on iPhone and iPad, or tap its trash icon (Remove download) on Android phones and tablets. To delete several, tap Select, pick them, tap Delete at the bottom, and confirm with Delete Download.

Deleting a download removes it from your device only. The title stays on the server. Where you stopped in a downloaded title syncs to your other devices after you reconnect.

Save a file on a computer

The web app can save a title’s original file through your browser.

  1. Open a movie or episode in the web app.
  2. Open the More menu and select Download.
  3. Choose a version, then let the browser finish the transfer.

Download appears when your account is allowed to download. You get the original file, so you need a video player that can open its format.
